i'm back! =P

after a very long hiatus, I have decided to write again...
and to focus not just on blogging, but on one of the things I love to do...
which is cooking of course! :)

It's 2011 and this is my first entry... come to think of it, it's mid year na! Let's see how many entries will I be able to post until 31 December 2011. I am targeting atleast 2 entries per month (realistic enough :-P) that should be atleast 14 entries by year end.

Hmmm... when I first created this blog, my aim was to post what I cook or eat, something like that... but browsing my past entries, I can see that I was only able to share just a few. I don't even have an entry in 2010... tsk! what was I doing? hahahaha! I have experimented on quite a number for recipes, took pictures of the finished products but was just too lazy to blog.

Now, I am inspired by my new desk! hahaha!

Don't be too hard on me, give me time to adjust. Consider this as entry number 1. I was planning to post a recipe here but decided on a separate entry for it, para 2 entries na ko for June! lol.

that's it for now.

Cheezy Cod

I went to the market earlier with no list and no goal. haha! So, I just went there to look around and then buy whatever gets my attention. I did not buy any pork or chicken coz I find it boring... I'm bad! It's just that I have no idea what I want to eat.. so, I went to the seafood section of the market and bought 1 kg of shrimp and then I saw the cod and salmon steaks... I got excited and bought 1 each. Then I passed by the vegetable section and got some greens. The uncle there even asked where I've been coz I was absent for 2 weeks... he remembers... Imagine that! I also bought some bananas and a guava.

Enough of my market story... I was thinking about cod steak for lunch as in 'bistek' style but using cod as substitute but I changed my mind. I wanted to have the cheesy taste... like that of baked mussels. So here's the experiment....

CHEEZY COD

Here's what you'll need:

1 pc cod steak
2 T butter
1 T minced garlic
1 lemon wedge
cheddar cheese
salt and pepper

Here's how:

Rub cod steak with salt and pepper. Put 1T butter at the bottom of the ceramic pan/casserole you are using then sprinkle half of the minced garlic on the butter. Place the cod steak on top, squeeze the lemon then add the remaining butter and garlic. Cook in the microwave for 3 minutes. Remove from the oven and top with cheese, cook for another 15 seconds or until the cheese melts.

Serve hot with rice or salad.

Makes 1 serving.

It's easy and good. Try it! :)

ice jam

I'm back!! after 48 years of being quiet... hehe! I just want to share with you guys one of my fave snacks. :) I saw this in the bakeshop across the street. I asked myself 'Why not?' hehe. So, I bought 1 pack to test if it tastes the way should be... and good thing is.. it does! :)

It brought back memories of my 'baon' days in Canossa. I remember that I used to eat it in a weird way (in my opinion) because I will eat the biscuit first and then the colorful icing. I like to eat it that way because I love to savor the sweetness. hihihi! oh my sweet tooth! tsk.

I wish that it will taste like the chicken bbq from home. :)

Will keep you updated on the outcome.. :)

chopsuey my way

I am really one of those persons who love veggies. I am not a vegan but I really crave for the taste of veggies. My favorites are the greens... the greener the better. :) Last night I decided to cook chopsuey because calamansi was not available for the pork steak. There's so many veggies that I have to cook it in a wok and still have a hard time mixing the veggies. The end result was good though.. looks colorful and fresh ... the taste is good (daw) i love the crunchyness of the veggies.

IndoChine

Saturday night dinner at Indo Chine is really something else... the ambiance is cool and the food is great! :) A nice table outside the resto overlooking a river makes you.... feel hungry! hahaha!

Being in a foreign country makes me worried at times, like will I like the food? is it too spicy? too much curry? oh well, luckily I did not encounter any of those during the dinner... because what we had were all delicious.

First we tried their House Salad which was really good. Tender pieces of shredded chicken, fresh watercress, lettuce, sliced tomato, cucumber, egg and fried shallots, served with their special house dressing and garnished with roasted peanuts.

After the appetizer, the main dishes were served:

Black Pepper Beef with Garlic and Butter

MMMM it was so good!!! I am not sure how they achieve such state of the beef it was really tender, juicy
and very delicious. The vinegar dip complements the sizzling beef. yummy!

Cambodian Tiger Prawns

The Fresh tiger prawns prepared in a red chili,
holy basil and garlic sauce. It looks nice and tastes nice too.

SOFT SHELL CRABS

This is my favorite! the soft shelled crabs were fried with herbs and spices... it tasted so good that I think i ate 3/4 of the whole serving. It has just the right touch of spice. mouth watering...
highly recommended!

And finally we had their Chocolate Fudge Torte - A dense chocolate sponge layered with Valrhona chocolate mousse.

I will definitely come back. And you should try it too.

meatballs at ikea

One food I've tried and loved here in SG is the so called "Swedish Meatballs" in Ikea. You can choose from 10 or 15 pieces of meatballs served with potatoes, special gravy and jam... mmmm yummy!!!

It was highly recommended by my friend and she described to me how the jam gave a certain twist to the taste of the meatballs. Since I haven't tried it yet I really don't have any idea what to expect... but I am really curious and excited to try this famous meatballs.

So one time when we were shopping for comforter in Ikea, I just knew that I have to try those meatballs... And I did.. hihihi. I ordered 10 pieces.. it was really yummy... and my friend was just watching me enjoy the food. haha! Sorry, but sometimes I really get carried away with what I'm eating that I forget to even offer a bite... =S

Next time you need something for your home, go to Ikea and after doing your shopping try the meatballs... it's worth it!
